Roses Arranged in a Wrought Iron Stand

Hello Dear Subscribers,

This month, I am going to show you how to create an arrangement of roses, ivy vines, tiny pink filler flowers and Spanish moss arranged in a chic white wrought iron stand.

This is a fairly large frontal design and would be suitable for any special occasion, such as a dinner party or reception.

It is best viewed on a mantle piece or a table placed against the wall.

The type of stand, that I have used, is a candle holder, but it makes an excellent base for a floral arrangement.

As the size of the candle holders are very small, candle cups are used to hold the foam in place. A candle cup is a funnel shaped cup with a short stem that is inserted in the top of the candle holder. The foam is then placed in the cup.

Candle cups can be purchased, or you can make your own by cutting the stem off a plastic funnel, leaving about 5cm (2") remaining, and the short stem is inserted in the candle holder. The foam is then placed in the candle cup.

The materials I have used are
9 roses
7 mauve freesias
Pink bouvardia filler flowers
Trailing foliage such as small leafed ivy
Sprays of crystal beads
Spanish moss
Wrought iron stand
3 candle cups
3 mini bricks of floral foam
22 gauge long wire x 45cm (18 inches)
Pot tape

1. Place a candle cup in the top of three of the candle holders. Insert a piece of soaked foam into each cup.  Place two pieces of pot tape to criss cross over the foam and down onto the edges of each cup for about 2.5cm (1").

2.  Cut the stems of the trailing pieces of foliage to the desired length and insert around the edges of the arrangement.  Fill in the centre with pieces of foliage.

3. Cut the roses to the desired length and insert them evenly throughout the arrangement, having the largest ones in the centre and the smallest ones around the edges.

4. Cut the freesias to the desired length and insert them evenly throughout the arrangement.

5. Cut the filler flowers to the desired length and insert them throughout the arrangement.

6. Separate the stems of crystal beads from the long stem and wire each one, by placing the centre of a long 22 gauge wire behind the end of the stem and wind the right hand wire twice around, then bring the 2 wires straight down together. Cover each stem with tape for about 10cm (4") and insert the stems throughout the arrangement.

7. Separate the moss into strands between your fingers and drape them between the flowers.

This lesson is briefly explained. In our Floristry Diploma Course we give you easy to follow, step by step illustrated lessons. You will learn how to create many different styles of flower arrangements.
In each lesson, you will be taught how long to cut each stem and exactly where to position each placement in each floral design. You will learn hundreds of professional tips and techniques on flower arranging.
