Christmas Sleigh

Hello Dear Subscribers,

It's time for our Christmas Newsletter. It is such a lovely time of the year - the stores have their wonderful Christmas displays. I love looking at the Christmas decorations section with all the different styles and colours of ornaments and trimmings.

I saw this ornate gold sleigh in Melbourne last year and really liked it. I went back to buy it, but they were sold out.

I visited the USA, and I managed to buy the exact same sleigh there and brought it back with me, so I am using it for this year's Christmas newsletter.

Instead of the traditional red, I have chosen pink and gold, but of course you can use any colours of your choice.

This design would look wonderful placed on a table or a mantlepiece.

The materials used are -

Christmas picks of choice. I have used one large and several smaller ones
Pine foliage
Sleigh
Reindeer
Ribbon of choice, I have used sheer organza ribbon
Dry foam
22 Gauge wire x 23cm (9") long
Floral tape

1. Cut the foam to the desired size and using a hot glue gun, secure it in place in the sleigh, having the foam level with the top of the sleigh.
2. Cut pieces of the pine foliage to measure about 15cm (6") long and wire on double legs by placing the centre of a 22 gauge wire behind the end of the stem and wind the right hand wire twice around and then bring the two wire ends straight down together. Cover each wire stem with floral tape for 5cm (2") and insert the foliage around the edges of the foam.
3. The Christmas picks can be used whole or they can be cut up into smaller pieces and wired and taped, as explained in step two. Insert the largest pick in the centre and the smaller ones around the edges as shown.
4. Make a four loop bow by forming the ribbon into two figure eights - one on top of the other, the top two loops should measure about 5cm (2") long and the next two loops should measure about 7.5cm (3") long. Wire the bow by placing the centre of a 22 gauge wire across the centre of the bow. Bring the two wires straight down together and twist them together under the bow. Make four more bows in the same way. Insert the bows evenly between the Christmas picks.
5. Place the ribbon around the neck of the reindeer and tie it in a small bow. Cut the ribbon ends on a slant. To form the reins between the reindeer and the sleigh, insert the end of a piece of ribbon under the centre back of the ribbon around the reindeers neck and bring each piece across to the sleigh. Wire the end of each piece of ribbon by placing the centre of a 22 gauge wire across the end of the ribbon and wind the wire around a couple of times, then bring the wires straight down together and insert them into the foam at the beginning of the sleigh.

This arrangement is briefly explained. In our Floristry Diploma Course, we explain each step in detail with diagrams for each step, and measurements on how long to cut each stem and exactly where to position each placement.
You will learn the correct way to go about creating each design, starting at the very beginning and following our unique easy to understand, step by step illustrated instructions.
