Exotic Flower Arrangement

Hello Dear Subscribers,

For this month's newsletter, we have featured a modern upright floral design using exotic flowers and foliage.

This design would be ideal for a contemporary setting.

This arrangement features a heliconia, palm fern, tropical leaves, small leaf pittosporum and narrow bamboo that are arranged in a tall slim container.

Green ribbon is knotted at one end and spiralled around the stems for a modern accent.

Orange sheer ribbon has also been used to pick up the colour of the heliconia.

This is a very quick and easy design to create.

Maximum impact is given for the minimal amount of materials that been used.

The materials used in this design are:

One Heliconia
Palm leaf
Small leaf pittosporum
3 tropical leaves
3 stems of bamboo
Tall container
Green tear ribbon
Orange sheer ribbon
22 gauge wire x 23cm (9") long

Method
1. Fill the container three quarters of the way with water.
2. Cut the pittosporum to the desiried length, snip off the excess foliage from the lower part of the stems that would come under the water line and insert them into the container. This will help the other stems stand in position.
3. Cut the heliconia to the desired length and insert it to stand upright in the back of the container.
4. Insert the palm leaf to stand upright in the back of the container.
5. Insert 2 tropical leaves in the lower left side and one in the lower right side of the arrangement.
6. Cut each piece of bamboo on a slant to the desired length, having the centre one slightly longer than the side stems and insert at the back of the heliconia.
7. Tie one end of the tear ribbon in a knot and spiral the ribbon around the stems as shown in the photograph.
8. Make a loop with folded back ribbon ends with the orange sheer ribbon and wire across the base by placing the centre of the 22 gauge wire x 23cm (9") long behind the end of the loop and wind the wire twice around. Make another loop in the same way and insert one in the lower front and one higher up in the arrangement as shown in the photograph.
9. Spray lightly with water.
