Modern Yellow Arrangement
Hello Dear Subscribers,
Flowers in shades of yellow always brighten a room. Tall flax leaves
with yellow shading and yellow speckled aucuba leaves pick up the
yellow of the flowers.
This arrangement is a modern design featuring yellow roses, white
liliums, yellow chrysanthemums, white gladioli, flax, spear grass, gum,
aucuba leaves, spengari fern and lotus pods arranged in a green
pot.
The tall flax leaves give height and boldness to the design.
The yellow roses are arranged in a stepping down pattern, so
the eye is drawn from the top downwards. The spengari fern helps
give softness to the design, and the aucuba leaves and lotus pods are
used to create extra interest placed low down in the focal area.
I have used - 5 roses 3 white liliums 3 yellow chrysanthemums and buds 2 gladioli Flax Foliage of choice such as gum, spear grass and spengari fern 2 lotus pods Aucuba leaves 1 pot Plastic number 6 bowl and guard Floral foam 18 gauge heavy wire. Pot tape
1. Soak the foam in water. Place the foam in the plastic number
6 bowl and place the plastic clip on guard on top and position the bowl
on top of the pot. Secure it in place by putting 2 pieces of pot tape
over the foam and down onto the sides of the pot for about 5cm(2").
2. The height of this design is three times the height of the
container. Cut the flax to the desired length, if it is too wide, to
make it narrower use scissors to cut down the sides following just
inside the natural shape of the flax. Place the centre flax stem
in the centre back of the foam. 3. Cut number two flax to
measure about two thirds the length of the number one flax and
insert it to the left of the number one stem. Cut number three
flax to measure half the length of number two stem and insert it into
the lower right side of the foam. 4. Cut number one
gladioli stem to the desired length and insert it to the left of the
centre flax. Cut the next gladioli to measure about two thirds the
length of the first stem and insert it to the left of the first
gladioli stem. 5. Starting at the top and working downwards,
place the smallest rose between the two gladioli, cut each stem of the
other roses slightly shorter than the previous stem and position
each one as shown. 6. Starting at the top and working downwards, cut the stems of the liliums to the desired length and position them down the right side of the arrangement. 7. Starting at the top and working downwards, cut the stems of the chrysanthemums to the desired length and position them in the left side of the arrangement.
8. Fill in around the edges of the arrangement with the
different types of foliage, having the widest part across the base of
the design. I have inserted the spear grass in clusters on the left
side of the arrangement and then cut across the ends to give a
blunt cut effect. 9. Wire a lotus pod by
pushing an 18 gauge wire x 15cm (6") long vertically up into the
base of the pod to form a stem and then place the centre of another 18
gauge wire halfway behind this wire stem and then wind the right
hand wire twice around and then bring the 2 wires straight down
together. Cut all the wire ends level. Repeat with the other lotus pod
and insert one in the front and one slightly behind the centre rose. 10. Fill in the centre of the arrangement with short pieces of foliage. Turn the arrangement around to the back and fill in with short pieces of foliage having them extend down over the edges of the container. 11. Spray the arrangement lightly with water. This arrangement is briefly explained. In our Floristry Diploma Course we explain each step in detail with diagrams for each step, and measurements on how long to cut each stem and exactly where to position each placement.
