Mother's Day Arrangement
Hello Dear Subscribers,
What better way to celebrate Mother's Day than with an arrangement of roses - the universally recognised flowers that represent love.
This traditional style arrangement features wine coloured roses.
The flowers are arranged in a gold urn, which is placed on a pedestal for extra height, and a bow of soft biege lace organza ribbon with a gold edging is inserted in the centre front of the arrangement.
Gift items are included in this dispay, including a pink glass candlestick, an antique type pink and gold container and a heart shaped cream box with a silk rose and hydrangea florets with a bow of tulle glued to the lid.
I have used - 17 roses and buds Foliage of choice such as fern 1 urn Plastic number 6 bowl and gaurd Floral foam Ribbon 22 gauge wire. Floral tape. Pot tape
1. Soak the foam in water. Place the foam in the plastic number 6 bowl and place the plastic clip on gaurd on top. Position the bowl on top of the urn. Secure it in place by putting 2 pieces of pot tape over the foam and down onto the sides of the urn for about 5cm (2") 2. The foliage is used to form the outline shape. The height should be at least one and a half to twice the height of the container. Place the centre foliage stem in the centre back of the foam. 3. Cut two foliage stems to measure about half the length of the centre foliage stem, and insert one stem into each side of the foam. Fill in between these three stems with the remaining pieces of foliage to form a triangle shape, cutting each stem to the desired length. 4. Cut some shorter pieces of foliage and rose leaves and insert to extend downwards around the centre front of the foam. 5. Starting at the top and working downwards, place the smallest rosebuds down each side, cutting each stem to the desired length having the heads resting against and slightly in from the edges of the foliage. 6. Starting at the top and working downwards, cut the stems of the roses to the desired length and position them evenly thoughout the arrangement. 7. Fill in the centre of the arrangement with pieces of foliage, having them slightly lower than the roses. 8. Make a ribbon bow with two long tails. To do this, hold the ribbon 15cm (6") from one end and form the ribbon into two figure eights - one behind the other with another 15cm (6") length tail at the other end. Wire the bow by placing the centre of a 22 gauge wire across the centre of the bow and bring the two wire ends down together. Twist one wire tightly twice around the other wire. Cut the end of each ribbon tail on a slant. 9. Insert the bow behind the centre rose and spread the loops and tails to sit attractively. 10. Turn the arrangement around to the back and fill in with short pieces of foliage, extending them down over the edges of the container.
This arrangement is briefly explained. In our Floristry Diploma Course we explain each step in detail with diagrams for each step, and measurements on how long to cut each stem and exactly where to position each placement.
