Vibrant Flower Arrangement

Hello Dear Subscriber

Vibrant colours are always dramatic and exciting!

For this months newsletter, I wanted to show you an arrangement using brightly coloured flowers.

This arrangement features orange gerberas, liliums, cream snapdragons, peach roses, purple larkspur, leather fern and beech.

The red, orange, peach and cream go well together. By adding purple, it has provided good contrast and has given the arrangement extra pizzaz!

This large arrangement would be suitable for a church, foyer or reception area.

The materials used in this arrangement are
Red gerberas
Orange liliums
Cream snapdragons
Peach roses
Purple larkspur
Leather fern and beech or foliage of choice
Florist foam
Large plastic bowl and clip on grid
22 Gauge wire x 45cm (18") long

1. Soak the florist foam in water and place it in the plastic container.  Secure the foam in place with a plastic clip on grid or pot tape. If using pot tape crisscross it over the top and down on the sides of the container for about 5cm (2").

2. Start with the snapdragons, and working from the top downwards, insert the stems in the florist foam as shown to form the outline shape of the arrangement.

3. Fill in around the edges between the snapdragons with pieces of foliage.

4. Wire each gerbera stem to give more support.  To do this, insert the end of a 22 gauge wire x 45cm (18") long vertically up into the base of the flower head. Wind the wire spirally down and around the stem three or four times. Repeat this step with the other gerberas.

5. Start at the top and working downwards, insert the gerberas into the foam cutting each stem to the desired length and position them as shown in the photograph.

6. Fill in the top of the foam with pieces of foliage, cutting the stems to measure about 15cm (6") long and fanning them out in widening circles.

7. Start at the top and working downwards, insert the liliums into the foam, cutting each stem to the desired length and positioning them as shown. Have the centre liliums extending out slightly further than the geberas to form the focal area.

8. Insert the roses into the foam, cutting each stem to the desired length and positioning them as shown.

9. Insert the purple larkspur into the foam, cutting each one to the desired length and positioning each one as shown.

10. Insert short pieces of foliage to cover the back of the foam.

11. Spray the arrangement lightly with water.

This arrangement is briefly explained. In our Floristry Diploma Course we explain each step in detail with illustrated diagrams and measurements on how long to cut each stem and exactly where to position each placement.
