Modern Rose Design

Hello Dear Subscribers,

Well, it's newsletter time again and for this month. I wanted to show you a floral design using roses that is a bit different.

We usually think of traditional designs when we think of roses, but they can be equally effective used in modern designs.

This centrepiece design is a trendy way of using roses that is very quick to create, but quite effective.

As it is a low design, it is best viewed on a low table so you can view the flowers to their best advantage.

The materials used in this arrangement are -

9 roses
Ivy berry foliage
Dodda vine
9 mini lotus pods
Moss (optional)
Low square container
Florist foam
22 gauge wire

1. Soak the foam in water and place in the container having the foam level with the top of the container.
2. Cut clusters of ivy berry to measure about 15cm (6") long and insert them around the edges of the container.
3. Cut the roses to measure about 7.5cm (3") long from the base of the roses and insert them in three rows by three into the top of the foam.
4. Cut the stems of the lotus pods to measure about 7.5cm (3") long from the base of the pods and insert them between the roses.
5. Take a few strands of long dodda vine and wire the ends on double legs by placing the centre of a 22 gauge wire behind the ends of the dodda vine and insert the wires into one side of the foam.  Position the dodda vine around the container and secure the other ends of the dodda vine with wire in the same way and insert into the foam.  If the dodda vine needs a bit more support you can wire it in several other places and insert the wires into the foam to hold the vine in position.
6. Insert moss in between the flowers to cover the foam.  If you haven't got any moss you can use short pieces of foliage instead.
7. Insert a couple of pieces of dodda vine into the top of the foam and position them to sit between the roses.
8. Spray lightly with water.

This arrangement is briefly explained. In our Floristry Diploma Course we explain each step in detail with diagrams, and measurements on how long to cut each stem and exactly where to position each placement.
Our students send in photos of their work and they are creating some really professional looking floral designs.
You can do this too. Imagine the thrill you will get of being able to make up that are suitable for so many different occasions.
It is so easy when you learn the correct way to go about creating each design, starting at the very beginning and following easy to understand, step by step illustrated instructions.
