Tropical Floral Design

Hello Dear Subscribers,

This arrangement of brightly coloured tropical flowers would be perfect for a wedding on a beach location.

Orange heleconias, red ginger, bird of paradise, mauve ixia and yellow golden rod filler are arranged in a large flat container.

The flowers are arranged in a fan shape.

This is a large floral design, so two full floral foam blocks are used to hold the stems in position.

Fruit is positioned around the front of the arrangement.

The materials used in this design are:
Four Heleconia
Nine Ginger
Three Bird of paradise
Ixia
Golden Rod
Foliage of choice
Leather Fern
Large flat container
Two blocks floral foam
Pot tape

Method
l.  Soak the florist foam in water for several minutes. Place the two soaked blocks of foam in the large flat container and secure them in position with pot tape, crisscrossing it across the top of the foam and down the sides of the foam and onto the base of the container.
2.  Cut the foliage to the desired length and insert in the back and sides of the foam in a fan shape. Insert shorter pieces of foliage around the front of the foam, having it extending slightly downwards.
3.  Cut the heleconia stems to the desired length. Start at the top and work downwards and insert them in the foam as shown in the photo.
4.  Cut the ginger stems to the desired length and insert them in the arrangement as shown.
5.  Cut the bird of paradise to the desired length and position them lower down in the foam.
6.  Cut the stems of the ixia to the desired length and insert them between the other flowers.
7.  Cut the stems of the golden rod to the desired length and insert them between the other flowers.
8.  Cut the leather fern to the desired length and fill in around the centre of the arrangement to cover any foam. Fill in the back of the foam with short pieces of foliage.
7.  Spray lightly with water.

This floral design is briefly explained. In our Floristry Diploma Course, we explain each lesson in detail. There are step by step diagrams for each step, measurements on how long to cut each stem, exactly where to position each one and a colour photo of each completed design.
